Harps Concert for Marie Lorcini
The Harp faculty put on an outdoor concert for Marie Lorcini in her laneway with guest Rachel attending. Marie is a former Suzuki instructor and Rachel is a former Suzuki student. Led by Siobhan Kerr (our current harp instructor), the harp faculty showed their appreciation for Marie’s contribution to Music and to the Hamilton Suzuki School of Music in concert.
After teaching for many years, Marie Lorcini discovered & studied the Suzuki Harp Method with Mary Kay Waddington in the USA. She began the first Suzuki Harp program in Canada here in Hamilton in 1984 after moving from London where she began her time as principal harpist with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra. This was the first Suzuki Harp program in all of Canada. Siobhan was one of Marie’s first cluster of five students at HSSM. Since that time, many harp students have gone on to continue their study of the harp & it’s music, performing, practicing music therapy, and teaching. Many have also continued other artistic endeavors: dance, visual & dramatic arts, and the study of antiquities.
Pictured here is Marie with Siobhan & Rachel, another former student, who now works in music therapy.
